 Chapter 12
 भक्तियोग – BhaktiYoga
The Yoga of Devotion

12:01

Arjuna uvaacha:
evam satata-yuktaa ye

bhaktaas-tvaam paryu-paasate
ye chaapyaksharam-avyaktam

teshaam ke yoga-vitta-maaha

(SBG 12:01)
Arjuna said:
Among the devotees who are ever steadfast and worship You, and those who worship the Imperishable and formless Absolute, which of them are better versed in Yoga?
——————————
12:02

Sri Bhagavaan uvaacha:
mayyaa-veshya mano ye maam

nitya-yuktaa upaasate
shraddhayaa parayo-petaah

te me yukta-tamaa mataaha

(SBG 12:02)

Shri Bhagavan Krishna said:
Those who, fixing their minds on Me, worship Me, and are ever steadfast and endowed with supreme faith, I regard them as the best of Yogis.
——————————
12:03

ye tvakshara-manir-deshyam

avyaktam paryu-paasate
sarvatra-gama-chintyam cha

kootastham achalam-dhruvam

(SBG 12:03)
Those who worship the Imperishable, the Indefinable, the Unmanifest, the Omnipresent, the Unthinkable, the Eternal, the Formless and the Immovable;

12:04

samni-yam-yendriya-graamam

sarvatra sama-buddhayaaha
te praapnuvanti maameva

sarva-bhoota-hite rataaha

(SBG 12:04)

…have their senses controlled, possess a balanced mind, and are engaged in the welfare of others; certainly, come to Me.

——————————
12:05

klesho-’dhika-taras-teshaam

avyaktaa-sakta-chetasaam
avyaktaa hi gatir-duhkham

dehavad-bhira vaap-yate

(SBG 12:05)
Those whose minds are set on an unmanifest and impersonal Absolute Power, face difficulties in reaching the goal. This is because people always identify with the body and when there is no perceptible form, it is difficult to perceive.
——————————
12:06

ye tu sarvaaNi karmaaNi

mayi sannyasya matparaha
anan-yenaiva yogena

maam dhyaa-yanta upaasate

(SBG 12:06)
But those who worship Me, renouncing all actions in Me, regarding Me as the Supreme Goal, meditating on Me with single-minded Yoga;

12:07

teshaa-maham samuddhartaa

mrityu-samsaara-saagaraat
bhavaami nachiraat-paartha

mayyaa-veshita-chetasaam

(SBG 12:07)
…and those whose minds are set on Me, O Arjuna, I certainly deliver them from the ocean of the mortal Samsara or that of births and deaths!
——————————
12:08

mayyeva mana aadhatsva

mayi buddhim niveshaya
nivasishyasi mayyeva

ata oordhvam na samshayaha

(SBG 12:08)
Fix your mind and your intellect on Me alone, and you will no doubt live in Me hereafter.

——————————

12:09

atha chittam samaa-dhaatum

na shaknoshi mayi sthiram
abhyaasa-yogena tato

maami-cchaaptum dhananjaya

(SBG 12:09)
If you are unable to fix your mind steadily on Me, then by the Yoga of constant practice, seek to reach Me, O Arjuna.

——————————

12:10

abhyaase’pyasa-martho’si

matkarma-paramo bhava
madartha-mapi karmaaNi

kurvan-siddhima-vaapsyasi

(SBG 12:10)
If you are unable to practise even this Abhyasa Yoga, be intent on doing actions for My sake, for even by doing actions for My sake, you shall attain perfection.

——————————

12:11

athaitad-apyashakto’si

kartum-madyoga-maashritaha
sarva-karma-phala-tyaagam

tatah kuru yataat-mavaan

(SBG 12:11)
If you are unable to do even this, then taking refuge in union with Me, with perfect self-control, renounce the fruits of all your actions.

——————————

12:12

shreyo hi jnaanam-abhyaasaa-

jnaanaad-dhyaanam vishish-yate
dhyaanaat-karma-phala-tyaagas-

tyaagaa-cchaantir-anantaram

(SBG 12:12)
Better indeed is knowledge than practice; than knowledge, meditation is better; the renunciation of the fruits of actions, is better than meditation; and immediately after such renunciation, comes peace.

——————————

12:13

maitrah-karuNa eva cha

sama-duhkha-sukhah kshamee

(SBG 12:13)
A person who hates no creature and is friendly as well as compassionate to all is free from attachment and egoism. Such a person who remains balanced in pleasure and pain is ever forgiving,

(SBG 12:16)
A person who is free from wants; is pure, skilled, dispassionate and untroubled; renounces selfishness in all undertakings or commencements, and remains devoted to Me; is dear to Me.

(SBG 12:17)
He who is beyond joy and hate, neither grieves nor desires, renounces good and evil, and is full of devotion, is dear to Me.

——————————

12:18

(SBG 12:18)
He, to whom foe and friend are the same, who faces equally honour and dishonour, is the same in cold and heat as well as in pleasure and pain, is free from attachment,

12:19

(SBG 12:19)
…to whom admonishment and praise are equal, is silent, remains contented with whatever comes to him, is not attached to the place he stays in, and is of a steady mind full of devotion; is dear to Me.

——————————

12:20

(SBG 12:20)

Those devotees who truly follow this immortal Dharma as I have taught above, are endowed with faith and regard Me as their Supreme Goal, are exceedingly dear to Me.
