11:01
अर्जुन उवाच |
मदनुग्रहाय परमं गुह्यमध्यात्मसंज्ञितम् |
यत्त्वयोक्तं वचस्तेन मोहोऽयं विगतो मम || ११ १ ||
Arjuna uvaacha:
mada-nugra-haaya paramam
guhyam-adhyaat masamjnitam
yattva-yoktam vachastena
moho’yam vigato mama (SBG 11:01)

Arjuna said:
With this Supreme, Spiritual and Confidential explanation of the highest secret concerning the Self, which You have given out of your compassion towards me, my delusion is gone.

भवाप्ययौ हि भूतानां श्रुतौ विस्तरशो मया |
त्वत्तः कमलपत्राक्ष माहात्म्यमपि चाव्ययम् || ११ २ ||
bhavaa-pyayau hi bhootaanaam
shrutau vistarasho mayaa
tvattaha kamala-patraaksha
maahaat-myamapi chaavya-yam (SBG 11:02)

I have heard from You in detail about the origin and the dissolution of all beings, O lotus-eyed One, and also of Your inexhaustible greatness!

एवमेतद्यथात्थ त्वमात्मानं परमेश्वर |
द्रष्टुमिच्छामि ते रूपमैश्वरं पुरुषोत्तम || ११ ३ ||
evameta-dya-thaa-ttha tvam-
aat-maanam parameshvara
drashtu-micchaami te roopa-
maishvaram purushottama (SBG 11:03)

Now, O Supreme Bhagavan, O Supreme Personality, I wish to see Your Divine Cosmic Form.

मन्यसे यदि तच्छक्यं मया द्रष्टुमिति प्रभो |
योगेश्वर ततो मे त्वं दर्शयात्मानमव्ययम् || ११ ४ ||
manyase yadi tacchakyam
mayaa drashtumiti prabho
yogeshvara tato me tvam
darsha-yaatmaana-mavyayam (SBG 11:04)

If You think that it would be possible for me to see, O Bhagavan of Yoga, then show me Your Imperishable Self in Your Cosmic Form.

श्रीभगवानुवाच |
पश्य मे पार्थ रूपाणि शतशोऽथ सहस्रशः |
नानाविधानि दिव्यानि नानावर्णाकृतीनि च || ११ ५ ||
Sri Bhagavaan uvaacha:
pashya me paartha roopaaNi
shatasho’tha sahasra-shaha
naanaa vidhaani divyaani
naanaa-varNaa-kruteeni cha (SBG 11:05)

Shri Krishna Bhagavan said:
Just look O Partha, at My hundreds of thousands of different Divine Forms in various colours.

पश्यादित्यान्वसून्रुद्रानश्विनौ मरुतस्तथा |
बहून्यदृष्टपूर्वाणि पश्याश्चर्याणि भारत || ११ ६ ||
pash-yaadityaan-vasoon-rudraan-
ashvinau marutas-tathaa
bahoonya-drushta-poorvaaNi
pashyaash-charyaaNi bhaarata (SBG 11:06)

Look at the 12 sons of Aditi, the eight Vasus, the eleven forms of Rudra, the two Ashvins, the forty nine Maruts, and also many many other wonderful forms you have neither seen nor heard of before, O best of the Bhaaratas.

इहैकस्थं जगत्कृत्स्नं पश्याद्य सचराचरम् |
मम देहे गुडाकेश यच्चान्यद् द्रष्टुमिच्छसि || ११ ७ ||
ihaikastham jagat-kritsnam
pashyaadya sacharaa-charam
mama dehe gudaakesha
yach-chaanyad drashtu-micchasi (SBG 11:07)

Now see before you the whole universe including everything moving and non-moving in My Universal Form all at once. You can see whatever you wish to see and also what you may wish to see in the future, O Gudakesha (Arjuna).

न तु मां शक्यसे द्रष्टुमनेनैव स्वचक्षुषा |
दिव्यं ददामि ते चक्षुः पश्य मे योगमैश्वरम् || ११ ८ ||
na tu maam shakyase drashtum-
ane-naiva svachakshu-shaa
divyam dadaami te chakshuhu
pashya me yogam-aishvaram (11:08)

Never will you be able to see Me with your own eyes. I will give you Divine eyes so that you may be able to see My Unimaginable Divine Miracle.

संजय उवाच |
एवमुक्त्वा ततो राजन्महायोगेश्वरो हरिः |
दर्शयामास पार्थाय परमं रूपमैश्वरम् || ११ ९ ||
Sanjaya uvaacha:
evamuktvaa tato raajan-
mahaa-yogeshvaro harihi
darsha-yaamaasa paarthaaya
paramam roopam-aishvaram (11:09)

Sanjaya said:
After having spoken, the powerful Bhagavan of Yoga, the Supreme Personality Krishna, revealed to Arjuna, His Divine and Universal Form in all its Glory.

अनेकवक्त्रनयनमनेकाद्भुतदर्शनम् |
अनेकदिव्याभरणं दिव्यानेकोद्यतायुधम् || ११ १० ||
aneka-vaktra-nayanam-
anek-aadbhuta-darshanam
aneka-divyaa-bharaNam
divyaa-nekodyataayudham (SBG 11:10)

Arjuna saw in that cosmic Form, various mouths and eyes, innumerable wonderful sights, shining divine ornaments, and raised Divine weapons.

दिव्यमाल्याम्बरधरं दिव्यगन्धानुलेपनम् |
सर्वाश्चर्यमयं देवमनन्तं विश्वतोमुखम् || ११ ११ ||
divya-maalyaam-baradharam
divya-gandhaa-nulepanam
sarvaash-charya-mayam devam-
anantam vishvato-mukham (SBG 11:11)

Covered with Divine garments and Divine garlands, Divine scents emanating from Him, all wonderful, magnificent, shining; the all expanding and all pervading form of Bhagavan Krishna was seen by Arjuna through his Divine eyes.

दिवि सूर्यसहस्रस्य भवेद्युगपदुत्थिता |
यदि भाः सदृशी सा स्याद्भासस्तस्य महात्मनः || ११ १२ ||
divi soorya-sahasrasya
bhave-dyuga-padutthitaa
yadi bhaah sadrushee saa-syaad-
bhaasas-tasya mahaat-manaha (SBG 11:12)

The splendour and dazzle of the Great Bhagavan was so great as if there were hundreds of thousands of suns in the sky.

तत्रैकस्थं जगत्कृत्स्नं प्रविभक्तमनेकधा |
अपश्यद्देवदेवस्य शरीरे पाण्डवस्तदा || ११ १३ ||
tatrai-kastham jagat-kritsnam
pravi-bhakta mane-kadhaa
apashyad-deva-devasya
shareere paaNdavas-tadaa (SBG 11:13)

There, at that time, in one place, Arjuna could see the entire universe with its multifarious divisions all to be united in the body of the Supreme Bhagavan Krishna.

ततः स विस्मयाविष्टो हृष्टरोमा धनंजयः |
प्रणम्य शिरसा देवं कृताञ्जलिरभाषत || ११ १४ ||
tatah sa vismayaa-vishto
hrushtaromaa dhananjayaha
pranamya shirasaa devam
kritaanjali-rabhaa-shata (SBG 11:14)

Then Arjuna, who was overwhelmed with wonder, with his hair standing on end due to ecstasy, bowed with folded hands before the Supreme Bhagavan Krishna, and began to speak.

अर्जुन उवाच |
पश्यामि देवांस्तव देव देहे
सर्वांस्तथा भूतविशेषसङ्घान् |
ब्रह्माणमीशं कमलासनस्थं
ऋषींश्च सर्वानुरगांश्च दिव्यान् || ११ १५ ||
Arjuna uvaacha :
pashyaami devaams-tava deva dehe
sarvaams-tathaa bhoota-vishesha-sanghaan
brahmaanam-eesham kamalaa-sanastham
risheemsh-cha sarvaa-nuragaamsh-cha divyaan
(SBG 11:15)

Arjuna said:
I see all Deities and various other living entities assembled in Your Body O Bhagavan. I see Lord Brahma on the lotus flower as well as Lord Shiva, many great sages and divine serpents.

अनेकबाहूदरवक्त्रनेत्रं
पश्यामि त्वां सर्वतोऽनन्तरूपम् |
नान्तं न मध्यं न पुनस्तवादिं
पश्यामि विश्वेश्वर विश्वरूप || ११ १६ ||
aneka-baahoo-dara-vaktra-netram
pashyaami tvaam sarvato’nanta-roopam
naantam na madhyam na punasta-vaadim
pashyaami vishveshvara vishvaroopa (SBG 11:16)

I see in Your Cosmic Form, countless arms, bellies, mouths and eyes. Yours is an Infinite Form, it has no beginning, no middle and no end.

किरीटिनं गदिनं चक्रिणं च
तेजोराशिं सर्वतो दीप्तिमन्तम् |
पश्यामि त्वां दुर्निरीक्ष्यं समन्ताद्
दीप्तानलार्कद्युतिमप्रमेयम् || ११ १७ ||
kireetinam gadinam chakriNam cha
tejo-raashim sarvato deepti-mantam
pashyaami tvaam durni-reekshyam samantaad
deeptaa-nalaarka-dyutima-prameyam (SBG 11:17)

I see You, with Your crown, maces, discs and Your brilliant radiance glowing from all sides. It is difficult to see You due to the bright, blazing and immeasurable sunshine like fire all around You.

त्वमक्षरं परमं वेदितव्यं
त्वमस्य विश्वस्य परं निधानम् |
त्वमव्ययः शाश्वतधर्मगोप्ता
सनातनस्त्वं पुरुषो मतो मे || ११ १८ ||
tvamaksharam paramam vedi-tavyam
tvamasya vishvasya param nidhaanam
tva mavya-yah shaashvata-dharma-goptaa
sanaatana-stvam purusho mato me (SBG 11:18)

You are inexhaustible and the Supreme Being to be known. You are the Supreme basis of the universe. You are the Imperishable Protector of the Sanatana Dharma (eternal way of righteous living). This is my opinion.

अनादिमध्यान्तमनन्तवीर्यम्
अनन्तबाहुं शशिसूर्यनेत्रम् |
पश्यामि त्वां दीप्तहुताशवक्त्रं
स्वतेजसा विश्वमिदं तपन्तम् || ११ १९ ||
anaadi-madhyaanta-mananta-veeryam
ananta-baahum shashi-soorya-netram
pashyaami tvaam deeptha-huthaa-shavaktram
svatejasaa vishva-midam tapantam (SBG 11:19)

I see You without a beginning, without a middle and without an end, with an unlimited number of arms, glorious, the sun and the moon are among Your infinite number of eyes. You are heating the entire universe with Your own Radiance.

द्यावापृथिव्योरिदमन्तरं हि
व्याप्तं त्वयैकेन दिशश्च सर्वाः |
दृष्ट्वाद्भुतं रूपमुग्रं तवेदं
लोकत्रयं प्रव्यथितं महात्मन् || ११ २० ||
dyaavaa-pruthivyor-idam-antaram hi
vyaaptam tva-yaikena dishash-cha sarvaaha
drishtvaa’dbhutam roopam-ugram tavedam
lokatrayam prav-yathitam mahaatman (SBG 11:20

The space between the earth and the heaven and all the quarters are filled by You alone. Having seen Your marvellous and fearful Form, the three worlds are trembling with awe, O Paramaatma (Greatest Soul).

अमी हि त्वां सुरसङ्घा विशन्ति
केचिद्भीताः प्राञ्जलयो गृणन्ति |
स्वस्तीत्युक्त्वा महर्षिसिद्धसङ्घाः
स्तुवन्ति त्वां स्तुतिभिः पुष्कलाभिः || ११ २१ ||
amee hi tvaam sura sanghaa vishanti
kechid-bheetaah praanjalayo gruNanti
svastee-tyuktvaa maharshi-siddha-sanghaaha
stuvanti tvaam stuti-bhih push-kalaa-bhihi (SBG 11:21)

Groups of deities are entering into You. Some of them, out of fear, are with folded hands and are offering prayers to You. Great sages are glorifying You by singing Vedic hymns.

रुद्रादित्या वसवो ये च साध्या
विश्वेऽश्विनौ मरुतश्चोष्मपाश्च |
गन्धर्वयक्षासुरसिद्धसङ्घा
वीक्षन्ते त्वां विस्मिताश्चैव सर्वे || ११ २२ ||
rudraadityaa vasavo ye cha saadhyaa
vishve’shvinau marutash-choshma-paash-cha
gandharva-yakshaa-sura-siddha-sanghaa
veekshante tvaam vismitaash-chaiva sarve (SBG 11:22)

The Rudras, the Adityas, the Vasus, the Saadhyas, the Vishvadevas, the Ashvin Kumaras, the Maruts, the forefathers, the Gandharvas, the Yakshas, the demons and the Siddhas, are looking at You wonderstruck.

रूपं महत्ते बहुवक्त्रनेत्रं
महाबाहो बहुबाहूरुपादम् |
बहूदरं बहुदंष्ट्राकरालं
दृष्ट्वा लोकाः प्रव्यथितास्तथाहम् || ११ २३ ||
roopam mahat-te bahu-vaktra-netram
mahaabaaho bahubaahoo-rupaadam
bahoodaram bahu-damshtraa-karaalam
drushtvaa lokaah pravya-thitaasta-thaa’ham
(SBG 11:23)

Having seen You O mighty armed One (Shri Bhagavan Krishna), in your Cosmic form, with many faces, eyes, many arms, many thighs, many legs, many bellies, many terrifying teeth, all the planets are perturbed. I too am aghast.

नभःस्पृशं दीप्तमनेकवर्णं
व्यात्ताननं दीप्तविशालनेत्रम् |
दृष्ट्वा हि त्वां प्रव्यथितान्तरात्मा
धृतिं न विन्दामि शमं च विष्णो || ११ २४ ||
nabhah-sprusham deeptam-aneka-varNam
vyaattaa-nanam deepta-vishaala-netram
drshtvaa hi tvaam pravyathi-thaantar-aatmaa
dhrutim na vindaami shamam cha vishNo (SBG 11:24)

O Bhagavan Vishnu, after having seen You touching the sky, glowing in many colours, Your eyes and Your mouths, I certainly am terrified and I have neither steadiness nor peace of mind.

दंष्ट्राकरालानि च ते मुखानि
दृष्ट्वैव कालानलसन्निभानि |
दिशो न जाने न लभे च शर्म
प्रसीद देवेश जगन्निवास || ११ २५ ||
damshtraa-karaalaani cha te mukhaani
drishtvaiva kaalaa-nalasanni-bhaani
disho na jaane na labhe cha sharma
praseeda devesha jagan-nivaasa (SBG 11:25)

Seeing Your mouths fearful with teeth like the blazing fire of annihilation and the fire of death blazing in you, I am bewildered. O Lord of the Gods, O Refuge of all the worlds, have mercy on me.

अमी च त्वां धृतराष्ट्रस्य पुत्राः
सर्वे सहैवावनिपालसङ्घैः |
भीष्मो द्रोणः सूतपुत्रस्तथासौ
सहास्मदीयैरपि योधमुख्यैः || ११ २६ ||
amee cha tvaam dhrita-raashtrasya putraaha
sarve sahai-vaavani-paala-sanghaihi
bheeshmo droNah soota-putras-tathaa’sau
sahaas-madee-yairapi yodha-mukhyaihi (SBG 11:26)

I see all the sons of Dhritarashtra with the allied kings, apart from Bhishma, Drona and Karna, and other generals from our side,

वक्त्राणि ते त्वरमाणा विशन्ति
दंष्ट्राकरालानि भयानकानि |
केचिद्विलग्ना दशनान्तरेषु
संदृश्यन्ते चूर्णितैरुत्तमाङ्गैः || ११ २७ ||
vaktraaNi te tvara maaNaa vishanti
damshtraa-karaalaani bhayaana-kaani
kechi-dvilagnaa dasha-naantareshu
sandru-shyante choorNi-tairutta-maangaihi (SBG 11:27)

…entering Your fearful mouths, which is a very frightful sight. I see many sticking between Your teeth and some smashing their heads and some being crushed by Your teeth.

11:28
यथा नदीनां बहवोऽम्बुवेगाः
समुद्रमेवाभिमुखा द्रवन्ति |
तथा तवामी नरलोकवीरा
विशन्ति वक्त्राण्यभिविज्वलन्ति || ११ २८ ||
yathaa nadeenaam bahavo’m-buvegaaha
samudrame-vaabhi-mukhaah dravanti
tathaa tavaamee naraloka-veeraa
vishanti vaktraaN-yabhivi-jvalanti (SBG 11:28)

Just as rivers with huge waves flow into the ocean, all these kings enter your flaming mouth and perish.

यथा प्रदीप्तं ज्वलनं पतङ्गा
विशन्ति नाशाय समृद्धवेगाः |
तथैव नाशाय विशन्ति लोकाः
तवापि वक्त्राणि समृद्धवेगाः || ११ २९ ||
yathaa pradeeptam jvalanam patangaa
vishanti naashaaya samruddha-vegaaha
tathaiva naashaaya vishanti lokaaha
tavaapi vaktraaNi samruddha-vegaaha(SBG 11:29)

Just as moths enter into the blazing fire, I see people entering your mouths at high speed.

लेलिह्यसे ग्रसमानः समन्तात्
लोकान्समग्रान्वदनैर्ज्वलद्भिः |
तेजोभिरापूर्य जगत्समग्रं
भासस्तवोग्राः प्रतपन्ति विष्णो || ११ ३० ||
lelih-yase grasamaanah samantaat
lokaan-samagraan-vadanair-jvalad-bhihi
tejo-bhiraa-poorya jagat-samagram
bhaasas tavo-graaha pratapanti vishNo (SBG 11:30)

You are licking the people up with Your fiery tongues and devouring all the worlds in your flaming mouths. There is blazing fire covering the universe. Your fiery glow is illuminating and scorching it, O Krishna.

आख्याहि मे को भवानुग्ररूपो
नमोऽस्तु ते देववर प्रसीद |
विज्ञातुमिच्छामि भवन्तमाद्यं
न हि प्रजानामि तव प्रवृत्तिम् || ११ ३१ ||
aakhyaahi me ko bhavaan-ugraroopo
namo’stu te deva-vara praseeda
vijnaa-tumicchaami bhavanta-maadhyam
na hi prajaa-naami tava pravruttim (SBG 11:31)

Please explain to me who You are in such a fierce form. I offer you my obeisance O Supreme Lord of Gods. Please be gracious to me. I wish to know You, Your original Being and Your workings.

श्रीभगवानुवाच |
कालोऽस्मि लोकक्षयकृत्प्रवृद्धो
लोकान्समाहर्तुमिह प्रवृत्तः |
ऋतेऽपि त्वां न भविष्यन्ति सर्वे
येऽवस्थिताः प्रत्यनीकेषु योधाः || ११ ३२ ||
Sri Bhagavaan uvaacha:
kaalo’smi lokakshaya-krit-pravriddho
lokaan-samaa-hartumiha pravrittaha
rite’pi tvaam na bhavishyanti sarve
ye’vasthitaah pratyaneekeshu yodhaaha (SBG 11:32)

Shri Bhagavan Krishna said:
I am the terrible time, the destroyer of people and I am now engaged in destroying the worlds. Even without your participation in it, all the warriors lined up on the opposite side will be killed.

तस्मात्त्वमुत्तिष्ठ यशो लभस्व
जित्वा शत्रून् भुङ्क्ष्व राज्यं समृद्धम् |
मयैवैते निहताः पूर्वमेव
निमित्तमात्रं भव सव्यसाचिन् || ११ ३३ ||
tasmaat-tvam-uttisht-ha yasho labhasva
jitvaa shatroon bhungkshva raajyam samriddham
mayaivaite nihataaha poorvameva
nimitta-maatram bhava savya-saachin (SBG 11:33)

Therefore, get up and attain glory. Conquer your enemies and enjoy a prosperous kingdom. All these warriors have already been destroyed by Me. You are merely an instrument, O Arjuna the ambidextrous one.

द्रोणं च भीष्मं च जयद्रथं च
कर्णं तथान्यानपि योधवीरान् |
मया हतांस्त्वं जहि माव्यथिष्ठा
युध्यस्व जेतासि रणे सपत्नान् || ११ ३४ ||
droNam cha bheeshmam cha jayadratham cha
karNam tathaa’nyaanapi yodhaveeraan
mayaa hataam-stvam jahi maa-vyathisht-haa
yudhyasva jetaasi raNe sapatnaan (SBG 11:34)

Drona, Bhishma, Jayadratha, Karna and also other great warriors are already destroyed by me. Just fight and never be disturbed. Conquer all the enemies in the fight.

संजय उवाच |
एतच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं केशवस्य
कृताञ्जलिर्वेपमानः किरीटी |
नमस्कृत्वा भूय एवाह कृष्णं
सगद्गदं भीतभीतः प्रणम्य || ११ ३५ ||
Sanjaya uvaacha:
etacchrutvaa vachanam keshavasya
kritaanjalir-vepa-maanaha kireetee
namaskritvaa bhooya evaaha krishNam
sagad-gadam bheeta-bheetaha praNamya (SBG 11:35)

Sanjay said to Dhrtarashtra:
Having heard the talk of Bhagavan Krishna, the trembling Arjuna with folded hands and joined palms, prostrated before Bhagavan and spoke the following in a faltering and fearful voice.

अर्जुन उवाच |
स्थाने हृषीकेश तव प्रकीर्त्या
जगत्प्रहृष्यत्यनुरज्यते च |
रक्षांसि भीतानि दिशो द्रवन्ति
सर्वे नमस्यन्ति च सिद्धसङ्घाः || ११ ३६ ||
Arjuna uvaacha:
sthaane hrisheekesha tava prakeertyaa
jagat-prahrishya-tyanurajyate cha
rakshaamsi bheetaani disho dravanti
sarve namasyanti cha siddha-sanghaaha (SBG 11:36)

Arjuna said:
Rightly, O Hrishikesha (Master of all senses -Bhagavan Krishna), everyone rejoices glorifying You and they feel extremely delighted doing so. The perfected beings offer their obeisance to You and the demons flee in all directions out of fear.

कस्माच्च ते न नमेरन्महात्मन्
गरीयसे ब्रह्मणोऽप्यादिकर्त्रे |
अनन्त देवेश जगन्निवास
त्वमक्षरं सदसत्तत्परं यत् || ११ ३७ ||
kasmaachcha te na nameran-mahaatman
gareeyase brahmaNo-’pyaadi-kartre
ananta devesha jagan-nivaasa
tvamaksharam sada-sattat-param yat (SBG 11:37)

Also why should they not offer their obeisance to you O Great One (Bhagavan Krishna)? You are better than Brahma the creator, O Infinite Being (Bhagavan Krishna)! O Lord of Gods! O Abode of the universe! You are the imperishable Bhagavan of the manifest and the unmanifest and everything that is beyond.

त्वमादिदेवः पुरुषः पुराणः
त्वमस्य विश्वस्य परं निधानम् |
वेत्तासि वेद्यं च परं च धाम
त्वया ततं विश्वमनन्तरूप || ११ ३८ ||
tvamaadi devaha purushah puraaNaha
tvamasya vishvasya param nidhaanam
vettaasi vedyam cha param cha dhaama
tvayaa tatam vishvam-ananta-roopa (SBG 11:38)

You are the Primordial Supreme Being, the ancient Personality and the Supreme resting place of this universe. You are the Knower as well as the Knowable.
You are the Supreme One with infinite forms, and the entire cosmos is pervaded by you.

वायुर्यमोऽग्निर्वरुणः शशाङ्कः
प्रजापतिस्त्वं प्रपितामहश्च |
नमो नमस्तेऽस्तु सहस्रकृत्वः
पुनश्च भूयोऽपि नमो नमस्ते || ११ ३९ ||
vaayur-yamo’gnir-varuNah shashaankaha
prajaapatistvam prapitaa-mahash-cha
namo namaste’stu sahasra-kritvah

You are air, fire, water, the moon and Brahma. You are the Divine Controller and the Grandsire. I offer You my respects a thousand times, again and again.

नमः पुरस्तादथ पृष्ठतस्ते
नमोऽस्तु ते सर्वत एव सर्व |
अनन्तवीर्यामितविक्रमस्त्वं
सर्वं समाप्नोषि ततोऽसि सर्वः || ११ ४० ||
namah purastaadatha prisht-ha-taste
namo’stu te sarvata eva sarva
ananta-veeryaa-mita-vikramastvam
sarvam samaapnoshi tato’si sarvaha (SBG 11:40)

I offer you my obeisance from the front, from behind You and from all sides. Because You are everything with unlimited potency and unlimited force. You are all pervading and therefore You are everything.

सखेति मत्वा प्रसभं यदुक्तं
हे कृष्ण हे यादव हे सखेति |
अजानता महिमानं तवेदं
मया प्रमादात्प्रणयेन वाऽपि || ११ ४१ ||
sakheti matvaa prasabham yaduktam
he krishna he yaa-dava he sakheti
ajaanataa mahimaanam tavedam
mayaa pramaadaat-praNayena vaapi (SBG 11:41)

Out of my love for You, without even knowing Your Greatness, I have addressed You as O Krishna, O Yadava, O Friend!

यच्चावहासार्थमसत्कृतोऽसि
विहारशय्यासनभोजनेषु |
एकोऽथवाप्यच्युत तत्समक्षं
तत्क्षामये त्वामहमप्रमेयम् || ११ ४२ ||
yachchaa-vahaa-saartham-asatkrito’si
vihaa-rashayyaa-sana-bhojaneshu
eko-’thavaa-pyachyuta tatsa-maksham
tat-kshaamaye tvaa-mahama-prameyam (SBG 11:42)

In whichever way I may have disrespected You, out of foolishness, for fun, while resting, while dining, when alone or when in the company of others, I beg You to excuse me.

पितासि लोकस्य चराचरस्य
त्वमस्य पूज्यश्च गुरुर्गरीयान् |
न त्वत्समोऽस्त्यभ्यधिकः कुतोऽन्यो
लोकत्रयेऽप्यप्रतिमप्रभाव || ११ ४३ ||
pitaasi lokasya charaa-charasya
tvamasya poojyash-cha gurur-gareeyaan
na tvatsamo’stya-bhyadhikah-kuto’nyo
lokatraye-’pya-pratima-prabhaava (SBG 11:43)

You are the Father of the entire universe, of the moving and the non-moving. You are the greatest Spiritual Master. No one is equal to You, nor can anyone be greater than You. You are the immeasurable and unequalled Power in the three worlds.

तस्मात्प्रणम्य प्रणिधाय कायं
प्रसादये त्वामहमीशमीड्यम् |
पितेव पुत्रस्य सखेव सख्युः
प्रियः प्रियायार्हसि देव सोढुम् || ११ ४४ ||
tasmaat-praNamya praNidhaaya-kaayam
prasaadaye tvaa-mahamee-shameedyam
piteva putrasya sakheva sakhyuhu
priyah priyaa-yaarhasi deva sod-hum (SBG 11:44)

Therefore after bowing down and prostrating before You, I beg You for Your Mercy, O Supreme Bhagavan. Please forgive me as a father would forgive his son, a friend his friend or a lover his beloved.

अदृष्टपूर्वं हृषितोऽस्मि दृष्ट्वा
भयेन च प्रव्यथितं मनो मे |
तदेव मे दर्शय देव रूपं
प्रसीद देवेश जगन्निवास || ११ ४५ ||
adrishta-poorvam hrishito’smi drishtvaa
bhayena cha pravya-thitam mano me
tadeva me darshaya deva roopam
praseeda devesha jagan-nivaasa (SBG 11:45)

I am delighted to see You in this universal form that I have never seen before but my mind is certainly filled with fear. Therefore O Lord of Lords, O Refuge of the universe, please be graceful and reveal to me Your previous form again.

किरीटिनं गदिनं चक्रहस्तं
इच्छामि त्वां द्रष्टुमहं तथैव |
तेनैव रूपेण चतुर्भुजेन
सहस्रबाहो भव विश्वमूर्ते || ११ ४६ ||
kireetinam gadinam chakra-hastam
icchaami tvaam drashtu-maham tathaiva
tenaiva roopeNa chatur-bhujena
sahasra-baaho bhava vishva-moorte (SBG 11:46)

I wish to see You in that form with four hands, with a crown, bearing a mace and a disc. Please just become that form, O thousand armed Universal Bhagavan.

श्रीभगवानुवाच |
मया प्रसन्नेन तवार्जुनेदं
रूपं परं दर्शितमात्मयोगात् |
तेजोमयं विश्वमनन्तमाद्यं
यन्मे त्वदन्येन न दृष्टपूर्वम् || ११ ४७ ||
Sri Bhagavaan uvaacha:
mayaa prasannena tavaar-junedam
roopam param darshita-maat-mayogaat
tejo mayam vishvam-ananta-maadhyam
yanme tvadanyena na drushta-poorvam (SBG 11:47)

Shri Bhagavan said:
O Arjuna, My Cosmic form has been shown to you with My own internal power, which is infinite, and full of glory. This form of Mine has never been seen by anyone else apart from yourself.

11:48
न वेदयज्ञाध्ययनैर्न दानैः
न च क्रियाभिर्न तपोभिरुग्रैः |
एवंरूपः शक्य अहं नृलोके
द्रष्टुं त्वदन्येन कुरुप्रवीर || ११ ४८ ||
na veda-yajnaa-dhyaya-nairna daanaihi
na cha kriyaa-bhirna tapo-bhirugraihi
evam-roopah shakya aham nruloke
drashtum tvadan-yena kurupra-veera (SBG 11:48)

Never can anyone see Me in this form even by studying the Vedas, performing sacrifices, through pious acts, through serious penances or through similar austerities, O Hero of the Kurus (Arjuna).

मा ते व्यथा मा च विमूढभावो
दृष्ट्वा रूपं घोरमीदृङ्ममेदम् |
व्यपेतभीः प्रीतमनाः पुनस्त्वं
तदेव मे रूपमिदं प्रपश्य || ११ ४९ ||
maa te vyathaa maa cha vimood-ha-bhaavo
drishtvaa roopam ghora-meedring-mamedam;
vyapeta-bheeh preeta manaah punastvam
tadeva me roopamidam prapashya (SBG 11:49)

Do not be afraid of this terrible form of Mine. Become free from all fear, have a pleasant mind and you will be able to see My former form again.

संजय उवाच |
इत्यर्जुनं वासुदेवस्तथोक्त्वा
स्वकं रूपं दर्शयामास भूयः |
आश्वासयामास च भीतमेनं
भूत्वा पुनः सौम्यवपुर्महात्मा || ११ ५० ||
Sanjaya uvaacha:
ityarjunam vaasu-devasta-thoktvaa
svakam roopam darsha-yaamaasa bhooyaha
aashvaasa-yaamaasa cha bheeta-menam
bhootvaa punah saumya-vapur-mahaatmaa
(SBG 11:50)

Sanjaya said to Dhrtrashtra:
Thus after having spoken to Arjuna, Bhagavan Krishna showed to the terrified Arjuna His own beautiful form again and encouraged him with His kind words.

अर्जुन उवाच |
दृष्ट्वेदं मानुषं रूपं तव सौम्यं जनार्दन |
इदानीमस्मि संवृत्तः सचेताः प्रकृतिं गतः || ११ ५१ ||
Arjuna uvaacha:
drushtvedam maanusham roopam
tava saumyam janaardana
idaa-neemasmi samvruttah
sachetaah prakritim gataha (SBG 11:51)

Seeing Bhagavan Krishna in His normal form, Arjuna said, “Having seen You in this beautiful human form, O Krishna, I am now settled in my consciousness.

श्रीभगवानुवाच |
सुदुर्दर्शमिदं रूपं दृष्टवानसि यन्मम |
देवा अप्यस्य रूपस्य नित्यं दर्शनकाङ्क्षिणः || ११ ५२ ||
Sri Bhagavaan uvaacha:
sudur-darsha-midam roopam
drishta-vaanasi yan-mama
devaa apyasya roopasya
nityam darshana-kaang-kshiNaha (SBG 11:52)

Shri Bhagavan Krishna said:
Arjuna, this form of Mine which you have seen is very difficult to be seen. Even the deities eternally long to see Me in this form.

11:53
नाहं वेदैर्न तपसा न दानेन न चेज्यया |
शक्य एवंविधो द्रष्टुं दृष्टवानसि मां यथा || ११ ५३ ||
naa-ham vedairna tapasaa
na daanena na chejyayaa
shakya evam-vidho drashtum
drishta-vaanasi maam yathaa (SBG 11:53)

Neither by the Vedas, nor by austerity, nor by gift, nor by sacrifice, can I be seen in this form as you have seen Me.

भक्त्या त्वनन्यया शक्य अहमेवंविधोऽर्जुन |
ज्ञातुं द्रष्टुं च तत्त्वेन प्रवेष्टुं च परंतप || ११ ५४ ||
bhaktyaa tvananyayaa shakya
aham-evam-vidho’rjuna
jnaatum drashtum cha tattvena
praveshtum cha parantapa (SBG 11:54)

By single minded devotion and dedication, I can be seen and known like this and in fact, one can even enter my mysteries,  O mighty armed one (Arjuna).

मत्कर्मकृन्मत्परमो मद्भक्तः सङ्गवर्जितः |
निर्वैरः सर्वभूतेषु यः स मामेति पाण्डव || ११ ५५ ||
matkarma-krinmat-paramo
madbhaktah sanga-varjitaha
nirvairaha sarva-bhooteshu
yah sa maameti paaNdava (SBG 11:55)

The one who is engaged in doing My work and considers Me The Supreme Goal; is free from contamination of the mind with previous activities and doubts; is free from attachment; has no enmity towards any creature; and is friendly with every living entity; certainly comes to me, O Arjuna.
